    What is a Kundali?

A Kundali (also called Janam Kundli, birth chart, or horoscope) is a map of the sky at the exact moment and place of your birth. In Vedic astrology, it shows the positions of all nine Grahas (planets) across the 12 Rashis (zodiac signs) and 12 Bhavas (houses), revealing your personality, life path, relationships, career, and karma.

Unlike Western astrology which uses the tropical zodiac, Vedic (Jyotish) astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, corrected by the Ayanamsha — currently about 23.9° — making the planetary positions more astronomically precise and aligned with actual star positions.

    Lagna (Ascendant)

The sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth moment. The Lagna defines your first house and is the most important point in your chart — shaping your physical appearance, temperament, and overall life direction.

    Graha Positions

The 9 Grahas — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu — each in a specific Rashi and Bhava at your birth. Their signs, mutual aspects, and yogas determine key life events.

    Nakshatra

The 27 lunar mansions of Vedic astrology. Each Graha occupies a Nakshatra and Pada (quarter). The Moon's Nakshatra at birth is the Janma Nakshatra — the foundation of your Vimshottari Dasha cycle.

    Vimshottari Dasha

A 120-year planetary timeline revealing which planet governs each phase of your life. The current Mahadasha (major period) and Antardasha (sub-period) indicate the themes, opportunities, and challenges active in your life right now.

    Navamsa (D9) Chart

The ninth divisional chart, considered almost as important as the Lagna chart. It reveals the deepest nature of all planets, quality of marriage and partnerships, and the refinement of your soul's dharma in this lifetime.

    Panchamahapurusha Yogas

Five powerful yogas formed when Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, or Saturn occupy their own or exaltation sign in a Kendra house. These yogas indicate greatness, success, and strong positive qualities in the native.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is Churki's free Kundali?
Churki uses the Lahiri Ayanamsha and Swiss Ephemeris-standard algorithms for all planetary position calculations. The accuracy depends most on having the correct birth time — even a 2-minute difference can change the Ascendant degree. For best results, use your recorded birth time from a birth certificate or hospital record. When birth time is unknown, a sunrise chart (6:00 AM) is used as a conventional default in Vedic practice.
What is included in the free Kundali report?
Your free Churki Kundali includes: (1) North Indian Lagna D1 birth chart with all 9 grahas, (2) Navamsa D9 chart, (3) complete planetary position table with sign, degree, nakshatra, pada, house placement, and dignity, (4) Vimshottari Dasha and Antardasha timeline for 120 years, (5) Panchang details at birth (Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana), and (6) personalized predictions for personality, career, love & relationships, and spiritual path.
What is the difference between North Indian and South Indian Kundali charts?
Both charts show the same planetary data but use different visual formats. The North Indian chart has a fixed diamond layout where houses are fixed in position and signs rotate based on the Lagna. The South Indian chart has a fixed grid where signs always appear in the same position and the Lagna marker rotates. North Indian style is traditional in Hindi-speaking states; South Indian style is used in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala. Both are equally valid — it's a regional preference.
What is Vimshottari Dasha and why does it matter?
Vimshottari Dasha is the most widely used planetary period system in Vedic astrology. It divides your 120-year life into planetary rulership periods (Mahadashas) based on the Moon's Nakshatra at birth. The sequence is: Sun (6 yrs), Moon (10 yrs), Mars (7 yrs), Rahu (18 yrs), Jupiter (16 yrs), Saturn (19 yrs), Mercury (17 yrs), Ketu (7 yrs), Venus (20 yrs). Each Mahadasha is further divided into Antardasha sub-periods. Knowing your current Dasha reveals which planet's energy is most active in your life right now.
Is my birth data stored or shared?
No. All calculations are performed entirely in your browser using JavaScript — your birth data never leaves your device and is never sent to any server. Churki does not store, collect, or share your birth information for the free Kundali generator. This is by design: your spiritual data is private, and Churki is built on privacy-first principles.
What is Ayanamsha and which one does Churki use?
The Ayanamsha is the correction factor between the tropical zodiac (used in Western astrology) and the sidereal zodiac (used in Vedic astrology). It accounts for the precession of the equinoxes — the slow wobble of Earth's axis over roughly 26,000 years. Churki uses the Lahiri Ayanamsha (also called Chitrapaksha Ayanamsha), which is the official standard recommended by the Indian Government's Calendar Reform Committee and used by the majority of Vedic astrologers worldwide.
